Celebrate National Donor-Advised Funds Day with Riley Children’s Foundation

DAF Day is recognized annually on the second Thursday in October to celebrate the smart and impactful way thousands of donors support the causes that mean the most to them. By giving through donor-advised funds (DAFs), you maximize your philanthropic impact now and in the future in a simple and tax-efficient way.

For Riley donors like Amy Balcius, who serves on the Riley Children’s Foundation Board of Governors, DAFs are an efficient and flexible way to support programs that matter most to them. A DAF allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions that can be invested to grow charitable impact.

“I like the flexibility a donor-advised fund gives us to be thoughtful and intentional about our philanthropy,” said Amy. “We can set aside funds for charitable giving and then make grants when and where we feel they can have the greatest impact.”

Behavioral health has become especially meaningful to Amy and her family, with them recently directing support to Riley’s Intensive Outpatient Program. This program provides patients who don’t require hospitalization with more support than traditional outpatient care.

“When a young person is struggling with their mental health, it doesn’t affect just them,” said Amy. “It can affect the entire family. For parents, knowing where to turn and finding the right level of care at the right time can make the difference. If our philanthropic support can help make that kind of care available to more children and give more families hope during an incredibly difficult time, that feels deeply meaningful to us.”
