Meet Tate Hartzler, Our Indiana Champion
We are proud to introduce you to Riley kid Tate Hartzler, our 2022 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals Indiana Champion.
Tate received treatment for stage 3 hepatoblastoma at Riley Children's Health when he was a baby. He recently celebrated being 10 years cancer free by fundraising for a Riley red wagon, which helps patients and families navigate the hospital. Tate set and reached his goal of raising $5,000 – far beyond the $2,500 minimum! Tate and his family are dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of pediatric cancer research.
CMN Hospitals Champions serve as ambassadors for the importance of children’s healthcare in their local community. We checked in with Tate about his new role and what supporting Riley means to him.
What does it mean to you to be the 2022 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Indiana Champion? What was your reaction when you found out that you had been selected?
It means a lot because I get to share my story and spread awareness about kids’ cancer. I also get to tell people how Riley took good care of me. I was excited when I found out.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to fish, swim, play basketball, and play baseball.
If you could describe your perfect day, what would that look like?
No school, sunny and warm, swimming in the pool, and playing basketball and baseball.
Why is it important for our community to donate to CMN hospitals like Riley?
Donating to Riley gives kids the chance to feel better.
What message would you like to send to kids who are in the hospital or going through treatment right now?
Don’t give up and keep fighting to get better.
