Riley Children’s Health NICU Renamed in Honor of Gift Celebrating Care Team

Riley Children’s Foundation is proud to announce the neonatal intensive care unit at Riley Hospital for Children will now be the Martha Ann (Rieth) Van Dyke Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in recognition of the exceptional, compassionate care delivered by the nationally ranked Riley NICU team.
This milestone is made possible by a generous philanthropic gift from Mrs. Martha Ann (Rieth) Van Dyke and honors the outstanding contributions of the caregivers who provide world-class care to Indiana’s most medically complex and vulnerable infants.
Every day, the NICU team cares for some of the sickest newborns in the country with extraordinary skill and dedication, and compassion. This naming is a powerful reflection of the impact they make not just on patient outcomes, but on the lives of entire families.
Riley Children’s is home to a Level IV NICU, the highest designation awarded, offering the most advanced medical care for premature and critically ill newborns. According to the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium, Riley ranks 6th out of 47 U.S. centers in the number of comorbidities present on admission — a measure that reflects the extraordinary complexity of its patient population. The neonatology program at Riley Children’s is consistently ranked among the leading programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
The renaming underscores the deep gratitude inspired by the NICU team's tireless work and highlights the vital role philanthropy plays in strengthening Riley’s mission. The gift supporting the NICU naming was made as part of "Every Child Deserves Riley," the Foundation’s $300 million comprehensive campaign — the largest in Riley history.
