Frequently Asked Questions

Legacy giving has been—and will continue to be—an important part of creating a healthier tomorrow for the children of Indiana. The Centennial Legacy Challenge uses allocated dollars to move our mission forward today while securing future investments via estate gifts to support a healthier tomorrow.

During the Centennial Legacy Challenge, when you document your future estate gift to benefit Riley Children’s Foundation, we will allocate the equivalent of 25% of your future estate investment (up to $1 million) in your name right now. The Centennial match funds will be applied in your name to a strategic priority designed to improve children’s health, while your future estate commitment leaves your legacy in an area of your choosing at Riley Children’s Foundation in the years to come.

Your philanthropic investment is vital to making Indiana a healthier and safer place to be a child— both today and tomorrow. The Centennial Legacy Challenge was created to promote this dual impact. Not only will your future estate gift advance the mission of Riley for years to come, you will have the opportunity now to support our most needed areas today.

A combination of donor dollars and institutional resources are funding up to $3 million in challenge gifts. These funds will fuel Riley’s strategic priorities aimed at delivering unprecedented child health.

It’s simple! You can return the non-binding, one-page confirmation form or provide a copy of your will, trust, or other legal document.

The Centennial Legacy Challenge will last through June 30, 2027 or until all challenge dollars are depleted.

Regardless of how old you are, it’s never too soon—or too late—to think about your impact.

However, to qualify for the Centennial Legacy Challenge, you must be 65 or older, or turn 65 before June 30, 2027.

Generally, the following types of future estate gifts will be eligible for challenge dollars: gifts by a will or living trust; beneficiary designations from a retirement account, bank account, or some other investment account; charitable gift annuities; charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and other forms of trusts; gifts of real property; and gifts of life insurance.

We are grateful for all those who have included us in their estate plans over the last century. The Centennial Legacy Challenge is designed to inspire new philanthropic investments and fuel the strategies vital to improving child health. Due to limited challenge dollars and the desire to promote new estate investments, the challenge dollars will only be available when a new gift is documented or the value of a previously documented estate gift is increased.

Yes. Your future estate gift can be designated to any Riley area or program of your choosing, including new or previously established endowments. Only your challenge match must be applied toward our current areas of greatest needs.

To be eligible for challenge funds, an estimated amount of your future estate gift must be documented on the gift confirmation form.

To best support Riley Children’s Health right now, the areas of greatest need include the following five strategic priorities: improve the mental health of kids and teens; recruit and retain the best and brightest; enhance access so that every Indiana child can benefit from Riley, regardless of background, location or ability to pay; expand and enhance family-centered support programs; and invest in pioneering research.

Thank you for your incredible generosity. While your transformative investment will have an incredible impact on the children of Indiana, the maximum challenge funds available for a single donor is $1,000,000. The good news: This allows the remaining challenge funds to inspire others to leave their legacy at Riley Children’s Foundation.

There are many ways to contribute to our mission. From volunteering to making monthly donations, we need generous supporters like you! If you are interested in learning more, please contact our team.
